Monasterevin & District Anglers Association was founded in the 1970's, with its objectives being to
1. To provide and encourage the sport of angling.
2. To take all possible steps for the enforcement of all laws relating to fish protection and preservation and to prevent the taking of fish during close season.
3. To take such steps , and promote such legislation beneficial to the propagation, development and protection of fish, and oppose legislation prejudicial to such interests of members.

The association controls fishing on parts of the rivers Barrow, Slate and Figile(Black river). The association also uses the Grand Canal
( The Grand Canal is free for all to fish) for some activities. Click on
association waters for details.
The main species of fish are trout, pike,bream,roach,tench,perch and eel. Currently there is a ban on all salmon fishing on the entire Barrow system and its tributaries. All legal methods of fishing are allowed.
Any person wishing to fish the association's water requires a current membership or day ticket.(except
Grand Canal, this is free for all to fish)
The local tackle shop in Monasterevin
